Several years ago, a customer purchased two PE600X900 jaw crushers from our company for crushing slate. One was in operation, while the other served as a backup. When our MR sales representative visited the customer’s site, he discovered that the slate was frequently clogging the jaw crusher’s feed inlet, causing it to run idle due to insufficient power. I advised him to use a hydraulic hammer to first crush the slate to 500 mm before feeding it into the jaw crusher. Subsequently, the customer requested an even finer particle size, down to 38 mm. The customer consulted us about the most suitable type of crusher, and we recommended an impact crusher.
Raw Material: Slate
Feed Size: 500 mm
Output Size: 0-19 mm, 19-38 mm (two output sizes)
Production Capacity: 60 t/h
Main Crushers: PE600X900 Jaw Crusher, PF1010 Impact Crusher, etc.
Location: Latin America
Problem 1:
The jaw crusher’s feed opening is only 600 x 900 mm. Customers’ raw materials are often quite large, primarily in length and width, but very thin. Sometimes, large pieces of flaked slate get stuck in the jaw crusher’s feed opening, forcing it to run dry. Workers have to use hammers to break the slate before the stones fall into the crusher, resulting in considerable waste of labor and resources.
MR Response 1:
We recommend that the customer use a hydraulic hammer to process the slate first and then feed the material after ensuring that the feed particle size matches the jaw crusher’s feed particle size.
Problem 2:
The stones crushed by the jaw crusher are too large to be used as road base material and cannot be used as aggregate for asphalt or concrete. The client has considered roller crushers, vertical shaft impact crushers, and chamber hammer crushers. Which machine is the most suitable?
Jaw crusher output: 80mm

MR Response 2 :
We recommended our impact crusher to our client because it offers the following advantages:
1. Shale is brittle and has low hardness; the impact crusher effectively reduces particle size and extends the life of the hammers, eliminating the need for frequent replacements.
2. The impact crusher produces well-shaped particles.
3. The impact crusher is easy to operate, allows for quick parts replacement, minimizes downtime, and reduces downtime costs.
Ultimately, the client accepted and purchased the impact crusher from our factory.
Jaw Crusher Output: 38mm

In this shipping process, the main equipment consists of the jaw crusher and the impact crusher. Taking the impact crusher as an example, during loading, MR first checks the equipment’s lifting points to ensure its stability during the lift. Additionally, for special structures or critical components, such as the steel frame, MR applies a protective film beforehand as a precaution. Throughout the entire loading process, MR acts with meticulous care and precision, and also requests the team to photograph each step to maintain a documented record.

After suggesting to the client that they first use a hydraulic hammer to crush the slate to less than 500 mm, the crushing production line at the client’s site resumed operation. During the project, MR’s jaw crusher demonstrated remarkably stable performance and met the production requirements. Furthermore, the impact crusher subsequently recommended by MR also performed exceptionally well, satisfying the client’s need for a finer particle size.
